This article was published in October Gamberry issue. As a pleasant gift to readers, we post it on the site shortly after the journal exit.
From time to time on the site, other materials from the printed "gambling" will appear ahead of schedule. When and what – we will not tell you this. Follow the announcements and publications.
Since Android He burst into the telephone market and spent most of the competitors from it with a weighty kick, the situation with smartphones began to painfully remind the situation with classic laptops. From the model to the model clothing, filling, the name differ dramatically, and take in their hands – and here they are, relatives of Windows, Word and browser. And on the samples what for 100 pieces, what for 15,000 rubles are the same, infection.
The same with the communicators is the same thing now: it seems to have bought a top pipe for myself, and the functionality-like the Nonyma sold from under the floor for five thousand. Of course, until recently, one could say: “Yes, I overpaid, but I have a steep screen, the system does not slow down, and games fly”. But today, cheap representatives, in the wake of brothers-planes, have acquired quick processors, high-quality matrices, received good cameras and are ready for war for a place under the sun. And the chances of victory are great – we were convinced of this from our own experience, testing three vehicles of the brand at once Highscreen.
Highscreen Omega Prime XL

Let's start with the most impressive model from the three – Omega Prime XL With a 5.3-inch screen. The phone looks solid. In length – as many as 15 cm, in width nearly eight. Despite the seemingly immense dimensions, in medium -sized hand the tube lies more than confidently and, surprisingly, freely controlled by one thumb. Thanks for this very mowed corners and the licked upper and lower edges.
Omega Prime XL did not fail and design. Its front panel is coal-black, and the color of the back is allowed to choose by mood. There are three battery lids in the kit: black and white plus perky lemon-yellow.
The main element of the phone-the screen-is made on the basis of IPS matrix. It does not shine with permission, only 540×960, but the picture gives out excellent, without noticeable bends and attenuations when the viewing angle changes.
The filling in Omega Prime XL corresponds, so to speak, the "large" level of the case. The quad -core crystal is refueling Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8225Q a frequency of 1.2 GHz. It was built on budget architecture Cortex A5 , And for this it is customary to scold him actively. But we will not do this-the system works smoothly, Internet pages are loaded without problems, the video spins up to 720p, and the games go with quite decent chart settings.
Omega Prime XL and cameras good. It is clear that they do not reach the faces of the industry – not that price category – but the rear matrix at 8 megapixels is enough to take your feet against the background of the sea and put it on Facebook without a twinge of conscience.
But with what Highscreen raised, so it is with built -in memory. There are only 4 GB here, and they are half busy. The problem is solved using Micro-SD flash drive, which becomes the third card on the phone. According to the good tradition of "state employees", Omega Prime XL, like all our today's heroes, supports two SIM cards. And although they are served by a common GSM module and only one of them can work with 3G-a bonus in any case pleasant.
Those who do not like huge buildings, say that Highscreen has another Omega Prime, without a XL prefix. Technically – all the same, but the diagonal of the screen is 4.7 inches.
Highscreen Alpha r
Technical characteristics
Form factor: touch monoblock * Operating system: Android 4.2.1 * Display: 5 inches (1080×1920), IPS * CPU: Four -core MediaTek MT6589T (1.5 GHz) * RAM: 1 GB * Built -in memory: 4 GB * Memory cards: Micro-SD * Cameras: 2 MP (frontal), 8 MP (back, flash, autofocus) * Connection: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, HSDPA 900/2100 MHz * Wireless modules: Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 3.0 + Edr * Navigation: GPS * Connectors: Micro-USB, 3.5 mm jack * Battery: 2000/4000 mAh * Dimensions: 14.3×7.2×0.9 cm * Weight: 156/204 g * The price of October 2013: 12 500 rubles
The model came into our hands Alpha r. It is not as bright as Omega Prime XL, but it is fully consistent with modern trends. The corners are rounded, the front panel is black, and the back cover is made of high -quality plastic. In terms of dimensions, the phone is noticeably smaller than the previous one, but, oddly enough, the display was not very behind him.
The matrix costs a 5-inch, also IPS, but with a resolution of 1080×1920. In terms of pixels density and the overall quality of the picture – no worse than the notorious iPhone of the last generations. Another thing is that with such a number of points, the graphic chip installed here can not always cope here PowerVR SGX544MP. It only has it on the video, browser and operating room interface. But heavy games are no longer tough for him. For example, Real Racing 3 integrated graphics turns into a slide show with sound accompaniment.
Like Omega Prime XL, Alpha R works on Android 4.2.1, one of the latest versions of the OS from Google. The only difference is that the “big counterpart” has a slightly modified by Highscreen, and the FullHD-image has an initial assembly, but with a pleasant bonus in the form of 20 GB in a cloud 4SYNC.
The warehouse, I must say, is not superfluous: only 4 GB is also in their memory in the smartphone, and they are allocated exclusively for the installation of software. That is, for example, you cannot record photos from the camera to the inner flash drive-only on the external Micro-SD card. By the way, it removes Alpha R better than Omega Prime XL, and although the sensor with the same resolution, 8 MP, the final result is noticeably more clearly and more detailed.
However, photo surveys in this model are not the main thing. The main feature of Alpha R is the time of work. Two batteries are supplied in a box with a pipe at once! One for 2000 mAh, and the second is 4000 mAh. If both are charged, the device works for four days without problems. True, then you will have to change the back panel. A large battery does not fit under the standard thin cover – for it there is an alternative “protection” that increases the already considerable phone.
By the way, Alpha R is not the only long -lived Highscreen line, the company has a Boost model with a 4160 mAh battery and a price tag of 8990 rubles. True, neither FullHD display nor outstanding design, she cannot boast.
Highscreen Spark
Technical characteristics
Form factor: touch monoblock * Operating system: Android 4.0.4 * Display: 4 inches (480×800) * CPU: Bogucommed Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play MSM8225 (1.5 GHz) * RAM: 512 MB * Built -in memory: 4 GB * Memory cards: Micro-SD * Cameras: 0.3 MP (frontal), 5 megapixels (back, flash, autofocus) * Connection: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, HSDPA 900/2100 MHz * Wireless modules: Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 3.0 + Edr, FM * Navigation: GPS * Connectors: Micro-USB, 3.5 mm jack * Battery: 1500 mAh * Dimensions: 12.4×6.5×12.6 cm * Weight: 130 g * The price of October 2013: 4000 rubles
The last tube in our test cannot boast of a super -screen, a fashionable “stone”, nor a particularly beautiful case. Why did we take it, you ask? Yes, for the fact that it costs only 4,000 rubles, and we always wondered what the ability of this price category has the ability. As it turned out, impressive.
First of all, here is the "adult" Android 4.0.4, and therefore, in theory, the capabilities of Spark – like more expensive models. That is, games, and films, and the Internet are available in full. The question is only in the speed of work.
Inside is bilingual Qualcomm MSM8225 , built according to the patterns of ARM Cortex A5 and functioning at a frequency up to 1 Mr Vegas sister sites GHz. RAM – 512 MB, and the graphics are responsible for the same video yard as in Omega Prime XL, – Adreno 203.
Oddly enough, this is enough to knock out any thoughts about brakes from Android. Yes, the plugs are sometimes found. For example, when calling the contacts, the tube is conceived, but only for a fraction of a second. The video works normally, however, only until 1280×720.
However, the most unexpected – Spark copes with games. And not with some Angry Birds or Cut The Rope (these, it seems, are already launched even in pans), and with serious three-dimensional projects. Yes, they go with low graphics settings, and small laying occurs, but the main thing is that you can play.
Those who now think that we have signed up with the whole editorship in the storytellers, let's say – there is an explanation of this behavior, and it is very simple. The local 4-inch display has only 480×800 points, which means that the requirements for the filling are more than modest.
Unfortunately, there is nothing to boast of the stable work of Spark. The cameras are weak, the speaker is quiet, and the built -in DAC on the headphones greatly cuts low frequencies. It's funny, but at the same time the device case turned out to be very high -quality: from durable plastic, and even covered with software. Something resembles the first HTC models when they left Windows Mobile.

Impressions of communicating with three Highscreen phones, we have a car and a non -cherished cart left. Omega Prime XL pleased not only with a large and high -quality display, but also a long work time, a powerful processor and pretty replaceable panels.
Little Spark was generally beyond praise. For 4000 rubles, he offered the smooth work of Android, the Internet and Games – of course, to the detriment of other functions, but these are already trifles.
But Alpha r disappointed us a little. With a very good display and two complete batteries, he managed to give a swing in game tests – the built -in graphics on Full HD was not enough. However, if anyone needs only calls, the Internet and films – this is not important.
